Mixed messages

The government is sending mixed messages on fuel prices.

It’s imposed a carbon tax as part of its climate change strategy while it’s also criticising fuel companies for charging too much.

In doing the latter they are conveniently ignoring the fact that nearly half of the cost of fuel at the pumps is tax.

    That graph will relevatory does not tell the whole story. the part
    labled “profit” should be labled “oil company revenue” because out of the chunk the oil has to be refined, distributed and retailed and all the people involved in these activities renumerated

    And of course the oil companies pay tax on whatever is left over after the costs all of this is deducted which is the profit.

    But the fact tht the Government goes after the oil companies for “gouging” given their own rapacious nature when it comes to levies, taxes etc shows how stupid they think we are.
