If I wanted to read the Twitter feeds of looney tunes commenters I would sign up for their feeds Robert Guyton.
Why do you splatter this and other threads with their electronic diarrhea?

Wouldn’t it be great if Ele put up a post about Environment Canterbury! That’d interest everyone here. The latest decision by the John Key-led National Government NOT to re-instate democracy for the people of Canterbury is a real discussion to be had here in the Homepaddock, I’m sure everyone here agrees. Of course, I can’t tell Ele what to do, wouldn’t dream of it, but surely others here would like the issue, topical and important, to get an airing here, eh, Homies!

Andrei – I’ve watched over the months as you’ve posted youtube items of Russian performers giving their best and never once challenged you with, “If I wanted to watch…”.
Northland and Canterbury are topical and fascinating issues here in New Zealand and comments by people outside of the Homepaddock are worth being aware of, if only to provoke some discussion that’s other than, John Key is God – what he decides is Right!
Or is that what you yearn-for? I’d have thought that you, especially, would have an interest in the suppression of democracy in Canterbury. Yes?

Robert – links are required to authenticate quotes and allow people to see the context. You managed it for two. I’ll give you a chance to give them for the others in a fresh comment but if you don’t/can’t I’ll delete those without them.

Well then why don’t you take the opportunity provided by this open thread to put forward the issues as you see them in sane and succinct manner instead of posting multiple twitter items thus flooding the thread with empty noise,

There’s a strain of lunacy about Canterbury and for that matter Auckland.
They are not content with electing the usual run of amiable incompetents that the rest of us do (with some notable exceptions) but insist of having incompetents *and* nutters in charge. Unfortunately for their major cities the nutters rarely exhibit the same mental illness and tend to row in different directions and create dysfunction.
I think a case could be made that both regions should be run as personal fiefdoms of whoever is the Govt in Wgton for all time.. or at least till Chinese and Indians consist the majority of the populations.
Until then fiefdoms of great incompetence would be a vast improvement in all their institutions.

Andrei – put simply, John Key is blocking the democratic representation of Cantabrians – you know, the democratic representation the rest of us enjoy, the democratic representation New Zealanders have long prided themselves for winning and holding. John Key and his Government have taken it from the people of Canterbury and are refusing to return it to them. It’s disgraceful.
JC supports the theft of democracy from Cantabrians. That’s disgraceful too.

Thanks for the blog. It gives me a good understanding of how nice and clueless people can be. How can you keep cow poo (and nitrogen) from getting into the beautiful aquifers of the game Canterbury plains? How will you restore democracy to the Canterbury regional council? That was the action of a dictatorship and anti democratic. Shameful in my book. Killing off our only commercial free public broadcaster, TVNZ7. Shameful dictatorship. Enjoy dictatorship and private wealth while you can isolate yourself from the grim reality of many Kiwis.”

Actually I support democracy in Canterbury and the former authority was easily the most undemocratic in the country with a consenting process that was dysfunctional and led to 5 year delays and poor outcomes.. that severely impacted on the rights of people seeking to get on with their lives and businesses.
The new setup has dramaitically changed all that and now its only the timing of returning local power to ECann thats in dispute. Personally I doubt the locals can do it because there’s simply too many loons.

You support democracy in Canterbury, but Cantabrians mustn’t be allowed to choose their own representatives???
