From a quick look of the nominees, the blog category of the Qantas Media Awards will celebrate politically correct mediocrity.
Before someone else suggests it – An obvious additional category is a “Blog written by a follicly challenged, free-market loving 40-something male-motelier”

I just don’t get why media organisations call their columns blogs.
The whole point of running a blog is because you’re *not* a member of a MSM organisation.

* Best left Leaning,
* Right leaning,
* Religious/philosophical,
* Lifestyle/Special interest (sewing, music)
* Best new blog
Criteria: must be written by non-professional writer, resident or citizen of New Zealand
Who: top 5 selected by online vote, panel of bloggers and media personalities select best.
You can’t have a vote for the top, as they’re too easy to skew, but you can use them to see what comes to the top. Who is on the panel would be the tricky part, you’d have to be careful to chose people who are widely respected, while acknowledging that no one is universally respected in the blogging world! DPF and Chris Trotter, plus say a political editor and a lifestyle columnist.
