365 days of gratitude

January 17, 2018

I’m too old to be a digital native but have younger people in my life who’ve introduced me to apps which make life easier in a variety of ways.

One of these is WhatsApp that enables users to receive and send messages and photos to and from individuals and groups.

This morning I woke up to a message from Paraguay that made me laugh and another from Argentina that started a conversation.

WhatsApp is such an easy way to communicate and share photos with friends and family near and far, and I’m grateful for it.

366 days of gratitude

Are you old enough to remember when toll calls were made only for matters of great importance?

My father was Scottish but I don’t ever recall him phoning his family in Scotland. Correspondence was by mail with the very rare exception of telegrams when the news was deemed urgent.

My mother’s family lived in New Zealand but toll calls to them were few and far between.

Now thanks to technological improvements national and international toll calls cost much less  and innovations like Skype and WhatsApp  give us alternatives to phoning.

Today I’m grateful for technology which makes keeping in touch easier and less expensive.

What’s WhatsApp?

Jan Koum has gone from surviving on food stamps to earning a fortune in 21 years.

He co-founded WhatsApp  in 2009 and this week signed a $19 billion deal with Facebook.

His is an inspirational story but it leaves me with a questions – what is WhatsApp?
