365 days of gratitude

March 17, 2018

Highlanders 25 – Crusaders 18.

A hard game, a good one for spectators and a well deserved win.

So many times the Highlanders win the first half but the Crusaders win the second.

Tonight the blue and gold team held on to its lead for which I’m grateful.

How do Highlanders’ fans get north?

July 21, 2017

Floods have closed roads which would allow people on the right side of the Waitaki to go north:

. . .The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has closed State Highway 1 between Pukeuri, about 9km north of Oamaru, and Morven, South Canterbury.

Journey manager Lee Wright said it was “a major event”.

“There are no safe detour routes off [SH1] because they are all significantly flooded as well. We’re really advising anyone travelling south of Christchurch to delay their journey.”

SH 79 between Fairlie and Geraldine, SH 77 between Ashburton and Methven, SH 83 between Pukeuri and Peebles, and SH 82 between Waimate and Kurow are also closed due to surface flooding.

Wright had earlier urged motorists “to get home now”. . .

Is this a plot between the weather and the Crusaders to stop Highlanders fans getting to Christchurch for the Super Rugby quarter final tomorrow?

How will the Highlanders fans get north?

The super Highlanders are Super rugby champions.

Two finals tonight

July 4, 2015

The Highlanders meet the Hurricanes in the final tonight.

Once the Crusaders were out of contention several friends from Canterbury told me they were backing the Mainland team.

That’s a fair return for all the times those of us on the right side of the Waitaki have backed the Crusaders when the Highlanders have no longer been in contention.

While rugby has been getting a lot of attention, there’s another big final tonight – the ANZ Young Farmer competition.

35 – 17

June 28, 2015

It was worth staying up late to watch the Highlanders play the Waratahs and win 35 – 17.

The Hurricanes beat the Brumbies earlier and will host the final next week.

32 -30

May 24, 2014

Crusaders 32 – Highlanders 30.

Were we robbed?

We were at the game in Dunedin  – and very grateful the Forsyth Barr Stadium has a roof because it’s a very cold night.

The Highlanders spent the last few minutes on attack and – we all thought – scored in the final seconds.

The referee went to the TMO. The crowd cheered as we watched the replay, but alas, the try wasn’t awarded.

Is this the same team?

July 6, 2013

The Highlanders we watched lose to the Crusaders last week were not the same as the Highlanders we’ve just watched win 49 -44 against the Hurricanes.

Is it the same team that has played so abysmally all season  and if so why didn’t they play like this earlier?
