365 days of gratitude

Waiareka Lions held a dinner last night as the finale for its annual Crop Competition.

They raised more than $47,000 and donated 75% of that to the Otago Rescue Helicopter service and the rest to the new community-owned Observatory Retirement VIllage.

The success of the evening was due to the generosity of businesses and individuals who donated goods and services for an auction, and the people who bid well above retail value, and of course the Lions who put in many volunteer hours organising and running the competition.

It was a wonderful example of community effort for which I’m grateful.
