365 days of gratitude

If I had to describe my childhood in a single word, I’d say secure.

That security came from the blessing of parents who loved each other and their children. They set us boundaries and made us face consequences when we crossed them. They didn’t preach but instilled in us their Christian values by practising them. They taught by example the importance of honesty, the necessity for, and rewards from,  hard work, and to treat others as we wished to be treated.

Ours was a single-income household and we weren’t rich in material terms but the lack of things was more than compensated for by the gifts of time and experiences our parents shared with us.

I am very aware that not every child had those blessings then and that more lack them now.

Today, and every day, I am grateful to my parents and for a secure and loving upbringing.

    I agree g4g!
We were blessed with a very similar upbringing,HP.
While our opinions today are largely irrelevant, our love for our children is as fervent as ever. It is heartening to see them instilling the same love in to their children.

And therein lies my abhorance of the Government redefining marriage to accomodate “same sex couples

Marriage as an institution was always about giving as many children as possible the blessings you are being thankful for which are derives from a mother and father strongly committed to each other and their joint task of raising their children to be responsible and productive adults

And now its meaning has been rewritten to be a government blessing for non fecund methods of acheiving sexual gratification

My future wife and I talked about the family we would like and eventually more or less got before doing the deed – that was the point of getting married!

We married in a ROC Church and in the litanies lots of healthy children were prayed for – one of the litanies even mentions grandchildren

Truly if our culture doesn’t put raising children in good environments forefront and center at its thinking it is doomed to be replaced by cultures that do

And it doesn’t take Einstein to figure this out

    Did you see this?
