Meteria Turei has resigned as co-leader of the Green Party:
She has no-one but herself to blame, not for what she did as a beneficiary, but because of her refusal to admit what she did was wrong, accept responsibility for it and apologise.
Had she stayed she would have taken her party down with her.
Her co-leader James Shaw’s handling of the issue has damaged him too but Turei’s resignation will probably enable it to stay above the 5% threshold.
The Newshub Reid Research poll showing the Greens lose a third of its vote – dropping 4.7 points to 8.3% – in a week may well have had something to do with her decision.
It is not over yet…
There is more to come

This was so predictable. Why couldn’t the Greens see it? Self importance?
Andrei is right. As a candidate Metiria is still a public figure. I doubt the media will let up on the scrutiny. There is still an investigation to dig into. There are still many unanswered questions.
More is to come. There will be further cost.

Agree totally with Andrei. I believe that even now she has resigned there is still a strong chance that the Greens won’t get to the 5% mark. Such a shame for those smart young women who have nailed their colours to the Greens mast.
This could become Metiria’s legacy, the decimation and death of the Greens.

Her problem now is, Mr E, that she has cast the father of her child as a deadbeat dad and his family as indifferent to her plight
Piupiu’s maternal grandma was a Labour MP whose campaign literature portrayed her as a loving Grandma surrounded by her grandchildren including little Piupiu – I don’t imagine she and her son are enjoying her posturing over her allegedly starving child
