  2. Gravedodger says:

1 The Hon W H Gillespie died in office
    2 H E L Pickering
    3 Lorrie and or Pick
4 Pick farmed at Motanau on what I understood was a rehab unit and during the lead up to his selection for the then safe Nat seat hosted an hour of farming news and views on 3YA at noon.
5 Andrew Rutherford from Mendip Hills was the first MP under The liberal Party banner, succeeded by George Forbes from Cheviot also a Liberal who became a United party member that then morphed into the modern National Party by merging with The Reform Party. Forbes led the inaugural Nats to be succeeded by Adam Hamilton then Syd Holland, no relation to Harry AFAIK, who became 25th Prime Minister defeating the first Labour Government’s second PM, Peter Frazer, Gillespie as a Nat won in 1943 then Pickering as a Nat in 61.
6 Rutherford never made it past committee Chair, Forbes went on to be Prime Minister and defeat by Micky savage, Gillespie was a Holyoake Minister, and Pick made cabinet rank also under Marshall.
7 Died of influenza in 1919 in what became known as the spanish flu, spread throughout the world by soliers returning home from WW1.
    8 Waimakariri.
    9 Ashley.
    10 Matthew Doocey.
11 Father was International rugby referee Tom Doocey.
12 in the latest cabinet reshuffle after the departure of Parata and Mccully, Matt was appointed 3rd Whip along with Barbara Kuriger from King Country as second and Botany MP Jamie Lee Ross as Chief Whip.

So well done Teletext a pass but I claim a banana cake, tins are very low.
No Kudos for pointing out the examiners failure with the By election date I claim the Hillary defense it was the proof readers fault.
What was that about Norm Kirk he was just one more who cut his teeth in national politics trying to dislodge Forbes, Gillespie and Pickering although they eventually did score in 1972, Pick did not stand when Big Norm swept Gentleman Jack Marshall aside and Kerry Burke defeated Adrian Hiatt to be a one term wonder for Rangiora, defeated by Derek Quigley three years later to restore sanity before heading over the alps to get electoral certainty in the homeland of Labour succeeding Paddy Blanchfield.
Yes Flying instructor was Pick’s war service with the RNZAF. But it was farmer and broadcaster I wanted.
I might also however omit any reference to Mr Carter, he doesnt rank here after his non effort in protecting volunteer Lion members from prosecution after the Akaroa Cycle race death that was all about stupidity from the deceased cyclist herself. Astrid aAndrson and the Lions Marshalls were innocent and in the changes mooted, David promised much and delivered nothing. Ve Haf Long Memories.

Interestingly in the days before the socialists got their poop together under Harry Holland, Forbes stood as an “independent Liberal ” against Rutherford.
Also of interest, Rutherfords wife, Emily Jane Monk was only 15 years old when they married in Waiau and she only passed in Kaikoura in the 1990s. I think they had eight children and Andrew was a member of a select group called The Amuri Wool Kings.

I know TLDR but I love history and too much time on my hands even though it was speed that tripped me on 1961 date.

  3. Teletext says:

Gravedodger, I only mentioned the date because the 1961 by-election was the first time I was able to vote.

  4. J Bloggs says:

    1) Lord Lucan

    2) International Brotherhood of Teamsters

    3) It is the oldest active missing persons case in the US

    4) Alien Abduction

    5) I’ve noticed his absence around the traps since he didn’t post the answers to last weeks quiz.I hope the reason isn’t something serious.

  5. Gravedodger. says:
