    1. Who is the only person to have won the Open Championship (British Open) 4 times in a row?

Tom Morris Jnr or as he was better known Young Tom Morris.

    2. What was unusual about that feat?

At the beginning the first Opens were played and the prize for the winner was a prized Morroccan Belt and the first person to win it 3 times in succession would get to keep it. Young Tom won in 1868, 1869 and 1870. In 1871 the Open wasn’t played as there was no trophy but was then played in 1872 they played for the current trophy (the Claret Jug) and the winner was again Young Tom. He was never to win another as he died 2 years later, about a year after his wife and son had died in childbirth. He is said to have died from a broken heart.

    3. Since WW2, who is the only person to have won the US Open 3 times in a row in the events he was able to compete?

    Ben Hogan 1948, 50 & 51.

    4. What was unusual about that feat?

In early 1949 he was severely injured in a car v. bus crash and at first, wasn’t expected to live, then not expected to ever walk again and certainly never to play golf again. He did actually enter the 1949 US Open but was not able to play due to his injuries. He won 7 of his 9 majors after the accident and could have won at least 2 more US Opens and a couple of Masters.

    5. Who was the first golfer to win the “modern Grand Slam” (the current 4 majors)?

Gene Sarazen. The others are Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods
