Friday’s answers

Andrei posed Thursday’s questions for which he gets my thanks.

Should he have stumped us all he can claim a virtual batch of White Chocolate Rocky Road by leaving the answers below.

One Response to Friday’s answers

  1. Andrei says:

Zouaves were originally French light infantry of North African origin noted for their distinctive uniforms

In the 19th century many other armies formed “Zouave” units – most famously there were Zouave units on both sides of the American civil war whose uniforms were modeled on the originals

    (2) Zig Zag’s logo is a Zouave who supposedly fought at the battle of Sevastopol during the crimean war and who hand rolled cigarettes after his pipe was destroyed

    (3) The original logo dating from the late 1870s was modified to remove his cigarette, which seems weird given the nature of the product – but apparently there are even editions of Tintin where poor old Captain Haddock has been deprived of his pipe 😦
