Understanding & support

Prime Minister Bill English:

. . . The Government isn’t the answer to everything, most of our answers are in our own families and communities. Sometimes Government gets in the way of that. This is a Government that will be focussed on understanding, at a very individual level, what is going to work with people and then supporting them to achieve it. . .

Focussing on understanding and then supporting people sounds simple.

It won’t be easy and it might be expensive.

But this social investment approach which the new PM led as Finance Minister, is showing that more money spent well now saves more money later  and changes lives for the better.

What a load of bollocks – this is just a poor excuse to snub their noses at the real issues affecting kiwis – if the government want to win the next elections they need to get involved in helping solve issues. Understanding means diddily squat

Graham how can you help people if you don’t understand what they need?

You also missed the end of the sentence: “supporting them to achieve it.”

I thought it was a pretty good statement. Classic paleo-conservatism. ‘Understanding’ in this context begins with actually listening to what people say. The left’s insistence on labeling and smearing anyone who disagrees with them has seen a huge decline in political discourse, with extraordinary consequences.
