Andrei and Teletext posed the questions for which they get my thanks.

Should they have stumped us all they can claim a virtual bouquet of spring flowers by leaving the answers below.

  1. Andrei says:

I went back to Ele’s old form with a theme – alas I misphrased question 4 so the theme remains obscure even more obscure than it would have been anyway

    Never mind

    (1) “Nothing is so necessary for a young man as the company of intelligent women.”
Who wrote this and from what book of his is it taken?

    (2) Who was Pyotr Bagration and where did he die?

Pyotr Bagration was a Georgian Prince and a Russian General of the Napoleonic Wars who was killed during the Battle of Borodino

    (3) it is guerre in French, guerra in Spanish and Italian and война (voyna) in Russian what is it in English?

War – the book in Q1 title is “Война и Mир” (Voyna i Mir)

    (4) Where was the 1812 Overture first performed?

The question should have been phrased What was the venue for the first performance…

And it was outside the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Moscow which was built to commemorate the victory over Napoleon Bonaparte

    (5) Do Pussy Riot count as intelligent women?

The rebuilt Cathedral of Christ the Savior was the venue for Pussy Riot’s notorious performance of their song “Punk Prayer – Mother of God, Chase Putin Away!” which was pretty dumb because it outraged the vast majority of the Russian population crossing both religious and historical boundaries
