Scaramouch –  cowardly braggart or buffoon; ruffian; scoundrel; a stock character in commedia dell’arte and farce who is a cowardly braggart, easily beaten and frightened.

    It wasn’t just that he was a loud mouth in the saloon, he carried weapons, and he swash buckled, and he threatened , people were scared of this mouth, until they looked closer,saw he was just a scaramouch.
