The ghastly Barack Obama is coming to New Zealand

The last and only other sitting president to ever have done this was Lyndon Baines Johnson in 1966 – after which we got ourselves involved with his debacle in Vietnam

    BE WARNED

  2. pdm says:

Andrei – wasn’t Bill Clinton President when he visited NZ in the late 90’s.

  3. Andrei says:

I had forgotten the adulterous Butcher of the Balkans came to play golf in Queenstown

Rolf Harris will die in prison

Slobodan Milošević died in prison an- elected leader of a nation put on trial by the bastards who destroyed his country for defending it from their depredations – sadly he did these creeps a favour by having a heart attack and dying because they were prosecuting him for crimes they themselves had committed

But fear not there is a day of judgement to come and then true justice will prevail.

But I will not kiss the ring of these people who disgust me more than you believe possible even if our Prime Minister has head up their you know whats

FYI Clinton came here as an EX President, a speaking engagement I recall, as he was never a businessman but a career politician, he was broke so traveled the planet being paid to entertain.

Bill Clinton visited NZ in 1999 for the APEC Summit. I remember it well because I was studying for my Masters with two senior Police who were involved in the security arrangements for the President’s visit to Queenstown.

The Prime Minister was Jenny Shipley.

From conversation on “GDT down 1.6%”

    Tracey,
I guess Wwoofers do actually come of all parts of the background spectrum.

My own experiences have been with the ‘free spirit’ type. The type that won’t use deodorant because it contains chemicals.

Background wise, I can only judge based on what I was told, and generally they have not been from disadvantaged backgrounds.

I do consider a number to be disadvantaged though. For many the ‘free spirit’ lifestyle comes crashing down when children enter the fray, with the pressures of work etc. Those who I have come across seem to have no will or want to save money, or create a financial secure future. That is one of the reasons why I think many are exploited. Wwoofers are supposed to learn skills as a part of their experience, but it seems like the skill of sound financial planning is at odds with the opportunity.

I will remind people why I am concerned about Wwoofers.
According to IRD up to $256/week can be charged for board tax free.
According to Wwoof website 4-6hrs is exchanged for board.
At best the the tax free allowance of board is therefore and equivalent payment rate of $6-9/hr.
Some might say that there are other ‘allowances’ are given, but in an employment situation, fringe benefit tax exists, and may be required on these ‘allowances’. Indeed in a typical employment situation, fringe benefit tax can apply to accommodation.

In my view, I think it is likely that some Wwoofers are exploited, and I think the opportunity is also likely to be gross systematic tax avoidance.
