The strange thing about Joseph Conrad was his written English was impeccable and his writing is wonderful
I do love his books!!!
But he could barely speak English – this has always fascinated me
I realized years ago that the written and spoken varients of a language are two different things – I could wax lyrical for hours but I fear I’d bore everybody

Then there’s the other face. Back in 2008 a lot of people thought Obama was an inspiring man so I sat with a transcript and listened to the oratory. Oh what a shame, soaring oratory but boring words in the transcript.. a blowhard.
