Yesterday on the “Today in History” post our gentle blog host listed it as being Leo Tolstoy’s birthday, incorrectly as it happens 🙂

Leo Tolstoy was indeed born on the 28th of August but the 28th of August as reckoned by the Julian Calendar not the Gregorian on which was not adopted in Russia until after the revolution

Since the difference at the time of Tolstoy’s birth was 12 days the 9th of September would be the correct place for this entry

Picky of course but an excuse to post the man himself reading different extracts from his book “For every Day” In different languages

Are you certain on the date Andrei?

My late paternal Grandfather left some doubt as to my Dads Birthday.
It became a three day festival as My late Grandma told him he was born on the 25th of June, however the official record says June the 27th 1900.
Now old Jimmy was known to have had a fondness for alcohol and with my dad being an only male son and heir, with three older sisters, it is not beyond the possible that good old Jimmy didn’t get to the Post Office for a couple of days.
