Saturday soapbox

Saturday’s soapbox is yours to use as you will – within the bounds of decency and absence of defamation. You’re welcome to look back or forward, discuss issues of the moment, to pontificate, ponder or point us to something of interest, to educate, elucidate or entertain, amuse, bemuse or simply muse, but not abuse.

Humanity's Team's photo.

I know nothing of hatred, intolerance, racism, sexism, bigotry, indoctrination, homophobia and prejudice. I don’t yet understand things like love, compassion, integrity, tolerance, human decency and truth. For the first and most important formative years of my life, all I will know is what you teach me. Choose  wisely.

One Response to Saturday soapbox

  1. Andrei says:

    I detest that word “homophobia”

It is in itself a word used by bigots.

We all have a distorted view of the world and of other people, alas it cannot be avoided – we need to try and walk in other peoples shoes though.

An example of distortion might be on your “today in history” post for today

2009 – Gay centre shooting in Tel Aviv

Why is this important enough to be recalled 6 years after the event in a land far from where it occurred?

And of course it was matter that only involved the members of the so called “gay community” in Tel Aviv and not an example of
homophobia” – just a tawdry little story in a world where violence on a far greater scale occurs daily

Meanwhile conspicuous by its absence on Tuesday’s post is the anniversary of the Baptism of the Rus in 988, a seminal event in World history for sure

This is not a criticism of you personally, rather it is to show how our perceptions are manipulated by being presented with selected factoids devoid of context by people with agendas

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
