It’s your turn to ask the questions again.

You don’t have to follow the five-question model I use and anyone who stumps us all will win an electronic apple crumble.

  1. Andrei says:

    (1) Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:

From what poem is this line taken and who wrote it?

    (2) Can you name the belligerents for the siege of Sevastopol which took place from September 1854 until September 1855?

    (3) It’s subterfugio in Spanish, sotterfugio in Italian, too easy in French and увертка (uvertka) in Russian = in English?

    (4) Can you name the belligerents for the siege of Sevastopol which took place from October 1941 until July 1942?

    (5) Looking forward to an extra hour in bed this Sunday?

PS – I really like your format Ele so I stuck with it 🙂

  2. willdwan says:

Tennyson’s ‘Charge of the Light Brigade.’
I’ll guess Russia, Britain, France, Turkey and maybe some Prussians.
    Subterfuge?
Didn’t know there was one…Germany and the Soviets, or Slavs of some nationality?
I wake at 4.30 every morning worrying about drought, so it makes no difference. Nearly through I think.

  3. Paranormal says:

    Beat me to it Wildwan.

For (arguably) the best description of the Charge of the Light Brigade, George MacDonald Fraser’s “Flashman at the Charge” does a wonderful job.

  4. J Bloggs says:

    1) The charge of the Light Brigade – Tennyson
    2) Britain, France, Ottoman Empire vs Russia
    3) Subterfuge
    4) Nazi Germany, Rumania, Italy vs USSR
    5) Hah….chance would be a fine thing…..

And another question to keep with Andrei’s theme:

Which song by the heavy metal band “Iron Maiden” draws its inspiration from the charge of the light brigade?

  5. Frustrated of Tasman says:

also based on the charge – 5-4-3-2-1 by Manfred Mann
