Has anyone seen summer?

There’s nothing unusual about water skiing in January – but there is something unusual and unseasonal about snow skiing.

Avid skiers are heading to Canterbury’s mountains this morning after an unexpected dumping of snow overnight.

Staff at the region’s biggest ski field, Mt Hutt, say the dumping has left around 20cm of snow on some parts of the mountain.

“In the base area, we’ve got around 10cm on the balcony,” ski area manager James McKenzie says. “We think there’s probably a little bit more up high, we’re just heading up there on the snowmobile now.”

There was fresh snow on the mountains around Wanaka when I was there last week.

We had heavy rain at home yesterday and the autumnal feel in the air when I walked round the farm this morning had more than a little to do with the fresh snow on the Kakanui mountains.

Day after day of warm sunny weather we enjoyed last summer is a distant memory.

If anyone’s seen summer, please send it this way.

Cold has been but never the less expect to see it reported before the year is out that this has been the nth hottest summer since records began – with n being greater than 1 but less than or equal to 10.

Summer ended in Paradise this year on November 30th 2013.
Single figures overnight Blanky turned on low at 02 47.
Weak sun breaking through racing clouds now.

Of course Canute stopped the tide he was a foundation member of the green party and Wusel’s grandad.

    Makes sense to me??!

  3. robertguyton says:

I’d proudly claim Canute as a Green.
He knew a thing or two about tides and gullible people.

  4. Andrei says:

Yes Robert – GD has indeed misunderstood the tale of the wise old King Canute but then again the message in it for you has gone way over your head as well.

  5. robertguyton says:

Because you think the developing climate instability is not being brought about to a significant degree by humans?

Neither’s the light-pollution that so frustrates astronomers these days, aye.

  6. Gravedodger says:

So that is the next tax target Robert some were wondering.

  7. robertguyton says:

With his State of the Nation speech today, David Cunliffe made John Key look and sound wooden.
    Hollow too.

  8. jabba says:

I must say global warming was better last year

  9. Gravedodger says:

Show us the money David whoever is current.
Btw you are not supposed to use money not accounted for, oh that’s right Wed Wussel has a few thousand printers on back order. I think the supplier wants the payment in 2014 dollars, to trigger delivery, then there is the paper and the inks. Nothin comes cheap in the real world, sorry.

Of course if anyone wants a peek at how easy it is try utube/ Clark and Dawes on QE.

  10. Andrei says:

I don’t know what planet you’re from Robert Guyton but on planet Earth most people are seriously underwhelmed by it all.

A very dreary performance devoid of any vision what so ever.

  11. robertguyton says:

You don’t know what planet I’m from, Andrei?
Do you believe there are people living on the other planets in our solar system?
Do you believe they can travel here to Earth in some sort of “space-craft”
    Are you Colin Craig?

  12. TraceyS says:

Farmers probably like global warming better this year.

  13. We’ve had a dumping of snow in Colorado too. Maybe global warming is running rampant in the 3rd hemisphere, but not in our two.
