I love old movies, they are in black and white and the sound is in mono – they didn’t have cgi but the best of them surely had style

This is dialogue from an old movie from 1936 in my collection (alas my version has been colourized which still doesn’t make it fully convince my kids)

Villain (in thick german accent): STOP!

This woman – keep away from this rotten creature

She was the mistress of a negro

And she gave birth to a black child

A black child ladies and gentlemen

Manager: So, what is the problem

Villain (in thick a German accent):A Black child,
    ladies and gentlemen!

A white woman giving birth to a Black child!

    It’s a racial crime!

She should be banished from civilized society which belongs only to white people!

Later as the child is returned to his mother, an American in the story, played by the amazing actress Lyubov Orlova she asks “What does this mean?” to be told

It means that in our country

    we absolutely love “all” kids.

You may have a kid of any colour.

A black kid, or a white kid or a red one or even a kid striped
like a zebra or polka-dotted kids,

    It’s our pleasure!

I do so love this movie

The reason why I posted the above is a news story from last week which is kind of sad and made me a little pensive

Jim Patterson: Black Soviet Icon’s Lonely American Sojourn
