The left likes to label the very necessary reforms from the mid 80s to early 90s as “failed” policies.
Au contraire, it’s the countries which haven’t brought their economies into the real world that are in the worst state, as Prime Minister John Key observed after his return from Europe:
Look at those countries that are experiencing significant policy challenges today: it’s because they have failed to have the right policy prescriptions.”
Right as in correct as well as right, or at least centre right, politically that is.

Great headline, Ele – Failed policies “didn’t fail”.

Socialists will never accept the very necessary actions of Roger Douglas as a fact of history without the emotion of Treachery getting in the way.
That is due to the total ignorance of economics around created national wealth. Sheesh they didn’t even recognise how socialist Muldoons thinking and policies actually were. Muldoon made the late Sir Walter Nash look decidedly ‘Tory’.
Last night a socialist shrill was hosting Kerre Woodham’s evening show and he spent the time before boredom sent me to sleep trying to drum up opposition to “asset sales” failing to have any understanding of the commercial reality that the partial sale of 49% of shareholding actually represents .
Many sheeple rang in to claim the enormous family silver sale of the late 80s was all those traitorous labour party people who went on to ACT. Total three if I recall and when a sane caller suggested that Goff, Clark, King, et al were in it up to their eyes in the total sale of that large bucket of State assets he made a glib comment that they had repented their sin.
