Prompt arrest for “random act of evil”

The parents of the young girl viciously attacked in Turangi have described the crime as a “random act of evil”.

It was and it reflects well on the police that just a week after the horrific attack they have arrested a 16-year-old and charged him.

Being charged is only the first step in the process which might lead to a conviction. But what would possess anyone, let alone someone so young, to do something so awful?

Apparently there was a “gang” party in the area. Suspect could well be a gang prospect doing what was required as part of his “initiation”.

Let me guess. One word. It begins with the letter ‘M’.

Both the blogged messages make me suspicious about the heritage of that person. What a useless cretin this young person is .I have been involved with national exams the last two months and can reflect on a couple of factors. .
However the great thing is the enthusiasm and niceness of 99.98% of the kids. These kids have a great sense of humour and have visions for themselves in the future.
The sad thing is the lack of young tangata whenua New Zealanders involved in that process,
Much has been tried but it still seems there is a gap which cannot be filled. Something has to be done. I am a pretty soft person but maybe it is time for hard reactions to these despicable acts.

Don’t kid yourself – evil stalks the world and it is not necessarily a Maori thing.

When the cork comes out most people are capable of the most appalling things – maybe 5% will actively resist, maybe 20% will passively go along with it.

Rostov on Don, November 1941, – Svetlana Andreeva …. is rousted from her house with her three children, the baby eighteen months old cries and is seized by a big bold man who dashes his head against a tree killing him. The mother and her two daughters are then gang raped – the youngest a girl of six dies. A little vignette repeated with variations thousands of times in those dark days the perpetrators, German not Maori, the “most civilized” people in the world

A large number of your 99.9% are capable of this – forget that at your peril

Who said the accused is Maori? I thought Purple South’s M word was methamphetamine.

Regardless of the race of this youth, Andrei is correct that evil is universal.

However, this does seem to have been confirmed by the picture in the NZ Herald.
I just thought it was strange that the media never previously mentioned the ethnicity of the suspect.
Were they covering it up or weren’t they allowed to comment?
Indeed, what details are they actually allowed to reveal?
Certainly the picture has revealed something.
I wonder if people might be able to identify the suspect from the t-shirt?
