25/25

25/25 in the Electoral Commission’s quiz on the different electoral options we’ll be choosing form in the November referendum.

The tool kit also asks questions on how important you consider accountability, effective government, effective parliament, proportionality and representation. Your answers indicate which system best suits your preference.

My answers left me to choose between First Past the Post, Preferential Voting and Supplementary Member, all of which give more and therefore small electorates than Mixed Member Proportional or Single Transferable Vote.

I have been thinking about it, and I’m inclined to vote for FFP. The reason is simply because everyone who votes can understand it. A LOT of people don’t understand MMP and STV etc are even more complicated. We must have a voting system that people understand.

Linda – I suspect that FPP might be the option which gets most support as an alternative, simply because most people understand it. However, even if a majority of people vote for change in November I don’t think FPP would win against MMP in the referendum which would follow in 2014.

Don’t be so pessimistic – we need to get the message out that the change to MMP from FPP was a big mistake, which it was, and now is the time to put it right.

I agree the change to MMP was a mistake but it will be difficult to get majority support for change and would be even more difficult to get majority support for FPP in the 2014 run-off agaisnt MMP.

Supporters of MMP are better organised and mroe vocal than those against it and the opposition is split among the alternatives.

Throwing in the towel – Ele?

And I thought I was ground down by the depredations of the shouting class.

No matter how hopeless it is I am going to do my utmost to support a return to FPP

I’m not throwing in the towl, Andrei. I’ll definitely be voting for change with the first vote and want to use the second to opt for a system which will have the best chance of winning against MMP in 2014.
