Just wondering . . .

. . . why manufacturers put pills in a big bottle and stuff it with cotton wool rather than putting the pills in a smaller bottle?

I think you’ll find if you look into it that it is the pharmacist puts the pills into the bottle rather than the manufacturer.

They actually manually count the pills out in most cases and then check the count – which is why it takes so long to pick up a prescription.

Part of the reason may be returns to scale in the production of bottles. It is cheaper to production a lot of one size and stuff with cotton than to produce a lesser number of two sizes.

HP:Its Sunday, cold, sunny just finished a good book . So let me help you out before beginning another.
I think this subject: “Pills and Things”, I will call it ,opens many avenues and may be a topic when you are next talking with Jim Mora.- but best you keep this secret until you next

ORM says : You use ORM to build information models that are consistent and unambiguous because ORM is based on first order predicate logic which has evolved from the works of people such as Aristotle, Leibniz, Cantor, Frege and Russell.

Let me get to pills- quickly.

    It has a forum: http://www.ormfoundation.org/forums/t/850.aspx

where Sharhim asks “I will then like to have a predicate that says that a pill is taken from a specific bottle. Will I be able to reference a pill in a MedicationBottle where “MedicationBottle” is the predicate MedicationBottle(pill, container) or something like that? ”

Ken Evans from Stickford in the UK, is helpful, proposing, but not giving any secrets away, that each pill might be bar- coded? But what happens to the pill and bar-code when it’s consumed?—–

Perhaps I ought to go to my next book “Jute and Cotton from Riverton- A History”, by R Guyton , published by Green Press Inc.

    Whatever- suddenly feeling tired.

It’s a cracking read Richard and I know John Key keeps a copy on the coffee table of his Hawaiian condominium. He mentioned that he has a $100 note as a bookmark, in page 83 (I know you’ll understand why!)

A pharmacist once told me that packing with cotton wool stops the pills from rattling around the container and generating pill dust. I have no idea if this is true, but it sounds plausible.

Something I’ve taken for granted all my life.. along with providing a bit of reverence for the pills (wrapping in cotton wool) and the slight mystique of removing the cotton wool before getting at the pills.
