Trans Tasman sums up the difference between our two major parties:
National wants to lift incomes through faster economic growth and can only do so by creating the right environment, and incentives to do so: Labour wants to create a “fairer” society by taxing the rich, and redistributing the wealth to the poor and needy.
National’s policies will encourage independence and aspiration, Labour’s will foster dependence and envy.
It’s a pity Labour hasn’t learned we’ve got to earn money before we spend it – that’s why economic growth is so important.
Just like individuals and households, countries which spend money thay haven’t got go backwards.

Trans Tasman shills for National and always has. Anyone wanting a clear view of politics should only use TT to keep the the floor of their budgie-cage clean.
Ele, if you don’t have one, the green ones are the nicest.
Talk to them often enough and they’ll perch on your finger.

Thats right, Rg. And they s..t a lot of nonsense, squawk more than necessary, and when disturbed flap about with no apparent sense of direction. I have found they do respond to gentle rubbing on the back of the neck.
To be fair their song can be beautiful, but unfortunately more often is rather plaintive.

Perfect summation. I recommend you google Lt Colonel Allan West of the US Republican Party. His quotes champion what is decent and right….self-reliance, independence and enterprise.
The most under-represented minority is the human individual. The best way to protect that minority is less government and less savaging through the tax system. Trans-Tasman is right…I only hope National have the strength
to follow their own constitution.
It is reassuring to note RG follows the typical leftie path and attacks the messenger! He never fails!

Fred – passarines eh! It always amused me that ‘budgie-mix’ contained hemp seed!
Those little buggers can nip though – watch out!

I suppose so Cadwallader, but I’m also quite enarmored of canaries, finches and peach-faced love-birds. Why do you ask?
Are you a bird-fancier too?

What is more interesting is that we are having a new round in the battle for the soul of this country. Given state superannuation, health, welfare and education promises and the demographic changes due to the baby boomer retirement wave we are rapidly running out of time and space to generate the income to pay for this. If the left win using the politics of dependance and envy then is will be a long downward spiral for the vulnerable in this country. There is never a free lunch.

In the Good Old days when you ran out of money you abducted a few Jews and put the thumbscrews to them.. they soon coughed up enough money to keep the party going.
You cant do that anymore, so the next best thing is to turn inwards and find some other group to demonise and put to the thumbscrews.
There are, I guess, three reasons to apply taxes, one is to change a behaviour that is inimical to the good of the country, another is to conduct the essential running of the country and the third is to keep the party going. Unfortunately a CGT in this instance looks more like the latter.

The difficulty for National is that we can all see the Clark years as wasted years in terms of growth and aspiration, National ought now be treating the years since as angry years! This is the time to mend the damage and division of Clark’s making and head on boldly. We are all entitled to be angry with the left for trashing the country but we foolishly continue to listen to them. This is a time to construct not divide.

Are you disturbed, Rg. You seem to be flapping about a bit. Perhaps a fantail/piwakawaka. Waiting till someone disturbs something then flit in and harvest the spoils. Lovely little birds – pity they often achieve very little of substance.

EXPONENTIAL GROWTH WITHIN A FINITE SPHERE OF OPERATIONS, WILL END.
It is expressed in terms of ‘doubling-time’. The last three doubling-times go 1/8 – 1/4, 1/4 – 1/2, and 1/2 to all-gone.
You are in trouble at the halfway point – it’s all negative growth from there on, whatever the resource.
You have been told, but you keep regurgitating the nonsense.
Get it together please.

For RG’s sake I revert to yesterday’s thread. I reiterate: Yes we are all entitled to be angry with the left for trashing this country’s economy. Given today’s post that Goff’s lot want to continue to borrow, tax and spend without a thought for the future, we are all entitled to be all the more angry with the Left. I expect this post will be met with a childish pun or related silliness from RG but that seems to be “par for the course!”

Cadwallader – the ‘left’ never will get it. their core philosophy precludes any hope of reason and foresight. However at last we are seeing some ‘opposition’ – a job they have been woefully inadequate at this “term”.
Rg – appreciate your sharing. I know Mr. Collie from past ‘adventures’!?
The ‘bird’ settled and was unfased by those rushing about it. A raptor perhaps or a magpie? I struggle to find the right one.
Seriously, while I feel we are politically apart on many issues I applaud your tenacity towards your beliefs. And keep the lignite where it is – we will need it one day in the future.
