Party party

I’ve been to several memorable National Party parties and last night’s caucus Christmas party was one of them.

It was held in Premier House, the mood was buoyant, people interesting, conversations lively, laughter frequent and the food delicious.

As to the names of the people, the content of the conversations and the cause of the laughter – my lips are sealed and I’d retired long before the party moved to The Green Parrot so don’t know which member of the press gallery wasn’t judged hottest.

Interesting that much is surfacing about corruption at the time of Xmas parties.
In order to try and stimulate some interesting conversation for the Nats Xmas party at Gore I tried to take in a sign relating to the ETS and Foreshore issues.
Barred by the local chairman (although I was welcome without accessories)on principal,I had to depart.
Opportunities to debate with Bill are rare while Xmas parties are a dime a dozen.

One man’s stimulate conversation is another’s hijack a social event with a sign based on wrong information.

The grapevine informed me of what happened and I don’t think it was the right time or place to do what you were trying to do.

There is a southern policy day in Invercargill in February for members at which stimulating conversation will be welcomed.

HP– Probably February will be too late for the curent stage pertaining to ETS and Foreshore and Seabed matters.

Nick Smith came to Gore after ETS matters had progressed and voted on, so I won’t be too surprised to see Cris Finlayson adopt the same approach but thats a long time ahead in politics and a cabinet reshuffle may well occur before then

At these meetings MPs should realise that not all those attending have to be brainwashed and should allow more time for questions and supplementary follow ups.

In the meantime compliments of the season to all and a satisfying 2011 as well.
