    gephyr – bridge so I guess fear of bridges

    (5) Popular voice – isn’t it usually used in the context of TV News canvassing those on the street for their opinion on whatever the topic for the day is?

    5) Vox pop is the abbreviation for the Latin phrase vox populi, literally “the voice of the people”. I always knew that my 50% pass mark in School C. Latin would come in handy one day 🙂

    1) Uruguay beat Argentina ( only nations form the “home continent” made the finals for the first 5 or so world cups)

    2) Iron, Nickel and Cobalt (probably in that order)

    4) Can’t even flail wildly and guess from the etymology

    5) That’s vox populi which is Latin for “what do I care what some person plucked from the traffic outside the TVNZ office thinks about this news story” (or perhaps “voice of the people”)

    Ill cheat on PT’s great work apart from 2 where, as you didn’t ask for pure metals, I will go for Iron, Steels with a predominance of iron and nickel and for the third most common nickel (pure).
    Sorry I am late with my assignment but we have had a beaut day for the garden that had been so neglected of late.

    3. That could well have been my father except he was not usually as expansive as that. A good scot with a lot of patience.

    5. Someone above says it is `the voice of the people’ and refers to TVNZ TVNZ. Somewhat inapproriate I feel given most of the tripe that they have uttered over the years.
