We took the long way home from the Wairarapa yesterday, going via Bulls.
En route, we passed through Eketahuna, home of Alf Grumble MP.
I didn’t spot him in town, perhaps he was busy in Wellington.
But I did see this sign which I presume points to his office:
If it does, I presume if people turn left they’ll be right.

You were in Bulls, and you didn’t travel a further 25mins west for a cuppa? I’m deeply wounded!

Farm to visit near Bulls, plane to catch in Wellington – sorry, no time for detours. Will try to plan better next time.

Indeed Alf was busy in Wellington, but if you should drop by when he is in town, he recommends you call in at the Eketahuna Club, back a bit from the main street on the Alfredton (well spotted) side of the town. It’s odds on he will be at the club, discussing important business with his constituents, which entitles him to send his grog bill to Parliamentary Services. But he is a great admirer of Homepaddock and would take time out to treat you to a drop or two or your favourite tipple for consuming during a chat about political philosophy and other lofty matters.

Very droll HP if you were going to Enfield from Te Wairarapa via Bulls you certainly going the long way.
Reminds me of an old retired shepherd in Waiau who legend has it, drove sheep from Gisborne to Nth Canterbury and when asked how he crossed Cook Straight calmly replied “oh we went round the other way”.

Reminds me of my old man and a big roan horse he actually represented NZ on one time against the Aussies back in the early 50s.
He told us kids he took Rob Roy for a gallop from Taradale to the Manawatu one day, jumped the river there, and then picked up speed down the Levin straights and jumped Cook Strait. He had to carry on down to Canterbury to get a good run up for the return jump.
Being 8 at the time and the eldest I had a pretty good idea that he was BSing because I had been through the Manawatu Gorge and knew how long it was.

On your way to see Inventory2 you will pass close by – the billy is always on.
I respectfully suggest you visit Alf Grumble on the way home- giving uninterrupted time to digest his lofty ramblings.
Presuming of course you will take a conventional way of crossing The Strait.

And I forgot to mention Linda was born and raised in Alfredton. I thought it was it was heaven at the time. (Back in the late 60’s)

Am I excused becasue the closet we got to Palmerston North was the sign pointing to it on the road between Bulls and Wellington?
