Nice and wholesome in complete contrast to that other fellow with whom he shares a birthday – the lamentable Boy George.
I was kind of hoping for some progressive Rock though.
Well perhaps if there isn’t a post for Alan White I can sneak one in a Roundabout fashion

I share your opinion of Boy George but am not so sure about the rock.

Would that be a rolling stone?

Me too Ele. Yes are a great band and amongst the pioneers of Progressive Rock – along with Vangelis amongst others.
Roundabout, the song I linked, is a great song, with a very interesting structure but it lacks warmth of humanity and is seems almost machine written.
Sometimes a cracked note or a fumbled riff can bring a song to life – sometimes not often.
Nik and I discuss these matters often, what makes music great – how can you tap into the magic that lifts a song from ho hum to greatness.
Anyway here is an example of where he is drawing inspiration from right now and while I’m sure this wont rock your boat, its a long way from Burl Ives, it is inspired musically imho.
We spent an evening together dissecting this and attempting to reproduce it – with some measure of success
