New medium old measure

The news that our great nephew had been born and all was well came by text.

The message came via 21st centruy technology.

New Zealand changed to metrics long before the baby’s parents were born, while his grandparents were just children; but his weight was given in imperial measure: 8lb 4 oz.

It continues to intrigue this ancient male that the modern generations refer to a babies weight in pounds and ounces.
But then in answer to the question “how much did baby weigh?” 10 pound 4ounces sounds impressive – didn’t mother do well/oh the poor mother etc – while 4.6492318 kilograms just doesn’t ‘cut the mustard’!!
