It Don’t Mean a Thing

Duke Ellington first played at Carnegie Hall 67 years ago today.

Thanks for posting this, HP. ( Isn’t Ewe Tube wonderful to spend time just looking up and watching great stuff!!?) We were brought up on a staple diet of the Duke, as my father was a jazz pianist himself. We had a huge collection of 78s ( which I still have) and the biggest collection of 1940s, 50s and early 60s Metronome magazines in all Te Atatu! We were taken to see the Duke perform in the Auckland Town Hall in the mid 60s. He played and brought with him fellow immortals Cootie Williams and Johnny Hodges.
ps I remember that concert far more clearly than some of the other concerts we attended later in that era. ( If you can remember it, you weren’t there, as they said!).
