St Andrew’s Day

The appeal of whisky escapes me and I’m not very keen on porridge.

But it’s St Andrew’s Day and I’ve got tartan genes which require me to acknowledge Scotland’s patron saint and the country’s national day.

St Andrew is also the patron Saint of Russia and the Ukraine.

Legend has it that he stood on the site where Kiev is today and prophesied a great Christian City would one day rise there.

Today is also my name day

PDM – I’m even less keen on haggis.

Andrei – thanks for the additional info and happy name day.

No worries Ele I take up your share of porridge (starts most days here) and as for scotch well your’s mine and Mrs GD’s are spoken for. My good friend Alan L and I celebrate too many of the A B’s wins and drown our sorrows when they come up short with a bit of the nectar of Scotland.
As for Haggis, well one can’t get through any old pupils function of note at my old school without the “address to the haggis” and I enjoy the taste as well. I accept however that Knowledge of the ingredients and the casing is not for everyone. So same as goes for scotch, more for those who indulge.
