Scotland the Brave

Because it’s St Andrews Day

(and because I usually post a music video for singers who have a birthday today but a quick trawl through YouTube for something from Billy Idol came up with nothing I liked).

What is the Castle HP? I suspect the back (that is the opposite side to Princes St.) of Edinburgh Castle but then again there are hundreds in Scotland.

  2. homepaddock says:

PDM – I thought it was Edinburgh too but that’s only a guess.

  3. pdm says:

It is definitely not Edinburgh Castle I have just googled the castle and Wikipedia has photos from North, South, East & West. None of them are like that. May be something to include in next weeks quiz because I have no idea other than to say it is not Stirling Castle either.

  4. pdm says:

Of course if you make it a question we need to know the answer don’t we.

  5. Richard says:

Not Edinburgh/Stirling-too much grass. Have put the question to the Black Watch regimental forum and await replies-members there love a challenge like this one.
    Will report back

  6. homepaddock says:

This website: has 130 photos of castles but you have to go through them one by one. I’d rather wait for the Black Watch so solve the puzzle.

  7. Richard says:

HP:The Black Watch are working on it. But in the mean time look at this- remind you of NZ

  8. homepaddock says:

Richard, easy to see why the Scots felt at home in Otago.

I await the Black Watch’s answer with interest.

  9. pdm says:

HP – will you put it up on a newer post?

  10. From the Edinburgh area, glad your boys liked our wonderful country, they certainly covered a lot of ground,we all know the castles but I leave the archivist to tell you.
The country suffered minus five last night, need to barricade for the winter onslaught

  11. Richard says:

According to Chalky White the hard working moderator of the BW forum it is Drummond Castle in Crieff, Perthshire.

Drummond Castle Gardens are considered to be the best formal gardens in Scotland.
    Thank you Chalky

  12. homepaddock says:

Thank you Richard and I second your thanks to Chalky.

  13. pdm says:

I went trhough Crieff 5 years ago with my cousin and her husband. We probably went past the Castle Drummond but I do not recall them pointing it out. Will go for a drive and have a look next time we are up there.

  14. pdm says:

ps – my cousin and her husband live in Dunblane.

  15. Paul Tremewan says:

If you have chosen White Wedding by Billy Idol, I am sure there would have been far less confusion!!! … Not so much for Rebel Yell, though!

  16. homepaddock says:

Welcome back Paul. I started listening to White Wedding – that’s one of the ones which made me choose Scotland the Brave instead.

  17. Chalky says:

The Castle is not in Crieff town as such. More the area. Put PH7 4HZ into Google maps or Multi Map.

    Below is their website:

    Glad you like our country

  18. homepaddock says:

Chalky, thank you for doing the detective work.
