Both Sides Now

Happy birthday Joni Mitchell.

One Response to Both Sides Now

  1. Paul Tremewan says:

After the dealing to we all gave to Gram Parsons, the silence regarding Phoney Joanie (and I still don’t know why we called her that) is deafening. At an educated guess, I suggest that Hissing of Summer Lawns, was her best LP. Musicians who played on that included such luminaries as Graham Nash (CS&N, Hollies), David Crosby ( CSN&Y, and prodigeous amounts of drugs) ,Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter (Steely Dan, Doobies), James Taylor (the first artist to be recorded by Apple), Ruben Ford (extraordinary guitar picker), and Larry Carlton. Interestingly, Rolling Stone’s reviewer, in 1975 said that it was the worst LP that reviewer had ever heard. And we have never heard of that Reviewer since…
If it is not her best, it has to be the world’s best LP where the artist who did the recording, also did the painting on the cover!
ps Great to see the ABs sort out Wales. To be there is a wonderful experience. We were there when Andy Haden accidently fell out of the line out in 78, but the ref penalised someone else. Mckechnie kicked the goal. We won and then we went back to London. That’s the same McKechnie of under arm bowling fame…
