Boulder to Birmingham

Rob’s comments took me back more than 30 years to Dundas Street Dunedin where the girlfriend of one my flatmates introduced me to Emmylou Harris.

I still have an LP on which she sings this song. (That’s a long playing record for anyone who doesn’t know there was something before CDs).

  1. A wonderful song. I used to play this when I was in a band with my old schoolfriend Brent Parlane. Older readers in Christchurch may recall his song “I’m Looking Forward To Tonight” which graced the Top Ten there in the early 70s. More info at http://bparlane.customer.netspace.net.au/index.html

Thank you for reminding me of that. Around that time I was very much into Dave Loggins, James Taylor, Jackson Browne. Nothing today compares. You have made me very nostalgic.

Ele Scary scary!! I had a ‘just close friends’ shall we say, when I was a student who lived in Dundas Street…only a ew years before you were there! See NZ evry body knows / is related or knows the person next to them who knows that person’s cousin! Also, Lindsay, what about Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina from that same time? And Boulder to Birmingham is a great song, I have seen Emmylou sing it live a couple of times… what a wonderful sound. She has or the most part kept her voice. [Mind, I was not that enraptured with Daniel Lanois’s production o Wrecking Ball’ or her.]

Paul – some of the best people lived in or know people who lived in Dundas St!

Our flat was 109a, between Leith & Clyde Streets & is now part of Arana Hall. Many years later my daughter flatted in Dundas St too – further along, over looking Logan Park.
