Edmonds Cookery Book

In my extensive collection of recipe books there are bigger, better illsutrated books with more exotic recipes.

But the one which has stood the test of time, to which I go back for basic, tried and true recipes is the old, spiral bound Edmonds Cookery Book.

It was first printed in 1955, my edition was printed in 1980.

  1. Hardcover 1987 edition, well-stained and still going strong. Good luck to a Kindle lasting that long!

I’ve got a 1988 edition; it’s looking very tatty now. I have on occasion bought copies as gifts for friends here in Australia. One friend was a bit taken aback, but thanked me nicely, and then a couple of months later, thanked me much more fulsomely. She and her boys had started using it, and she thought it was fantastic.

Deborah – definitely not a book to be judged by its cover.

We used to have two – our own about 1970 vintage, probably a pre-wedding present and either my mothers or mother-in-laws – vintage unknown as that part of it was gone when we got it.

Still in regular use until we packed our things in storage in July.
