yes the video is bit of giggle,HP, but, for me,it has also given rise to some serious thoughts.
John Key deserves credit for getting some positive exposure for NZ in New York. Being given honour of ringing the Stock Exchange Closing Bell is significant in that when you consider this alongside the earlier Wall Street Journal article (7th March 2009) it shows he has quite some credibility over there especially in financial circles.
On the downside his meeting with Helen Clark (and the pending retirement Sue Bradford) is a reminder that John Key is part of the (whipped) parlimentary concensus that brought us the antismacking law which intrudes into the homes of good parents our country.
I think there are more than a few National MPs who are unhappy with this law. I am hoping that part of the reason that the dissenters haven’t rocked the boat too much has been the need has been a desire to show that the party is united behind John Key prior to the New York trip. I’m hoping that when the PM comes home that may change. I’m hoping that John Key and the National Party take another step in the direction they were elected to take and remove nanny state out of law abiding parents lives. Is that hope realistic or laughable?
