Bah humbug!

Aaaaah!

On Monday, one of our staff mentioned how many days it was until Christmas. Don’t ask me how many it was. I shut my ears because I don’t want to think about it in September.

Then this morning, on Breakfast, there was a discussion about shops bringing out the Christmas stock.

Aaaaah again.

The C word in Christmas used to be Christ. They could have dropped that and still kept the good things like caring and compassion, but now it’s just commercialism.

I don’t have a problem with other people making money but if they’re going to do it around a festival, couldn’t they wait until a wee bit closer to the date?

When they pump up the artificial Christmas spirit this early it brings out my inner Scrooge.

Bah humbug!

Last weekend, the 13th of September, I notice Farmers in Takapuna already had an early Christmas display on show. That’s more than three months before the day. Madness.

Why not have Xmas Dec 25 to give the historical connection then post Xmas clearance for say Jan, the monster post Xmas through Feb followed with the final post Xmas clearance in Mar. Then retailers could have a couple of months of Xmas nostalgia sales followed by Xmas down under for say June, July and August to match the traditional winter yuletide season of the N H. Then we could move to spring Xmas fever in Sept , Xmas is coming through Oct, only weeks left for Nov and It’s nearly too late for Dec building to a crescendo by the 24th. Enormous savings in promotion costs avoiding the bottleneck of Xmas parties as we will be in a permanent state of Xmas bonhomie. A bonus could be the reduction in the religious overtones that so often cause grief to non christians, Hang on wasn’t it someones birthday on the 25th Dec, oh well moving on, there are some real marketing
