A couple of weeks ago a comment was left purporting to be from a regular commentator but which was in fact spam.
Today I found a comment supposedly from me which was also spam.
For the record – I don’t require drugs, software or assistance with my sex life nor do I want to advertise any goods or services associated with these.
Sigh.

I know how you feel. I have been spamming myself for a couple of months and it drove me madder than usual.
I ended up creating an email rule to block email from myself. From fifty or more emails a day back to the more acceptable 3 or 4.

Pique – the email spams to myself have happened for several weeks but the spam comment that supposedly came from homepaddock was new and even more unwelcome.

I don’t know anything about wordpress.com but I run a thing called Askimet which has so far been effective against spam.

Pique – WordPress has that too, but it’s not foolproof. It sometimes catches innocent comments and let the one purporting to be someone else go by.

The e-mails from yourself are a pain – we got “blacklisted” by Xtra, which meant that any legitimate e-mails we sent to xtra addresses were going automatically into their junk box – frankly, it was a pain in the butt!

I too have this problem although xtra seem to be doing a better job in recent weeks. Spam has dropped significantly and as a consequence so have the emails from myself to myself. The occasional genuine email goes into spam but as levels are so low they are easy to pick up on a regular check.
