Meandering mint

Deborah has been growing mint over at In a Strange Land and she’s very sensibly contained it in a pot.

That’s what I ought to have done when I took a few roots from my mother’s garden after she died.

Instead I just popped them into the garden where they grew and grew and grew and now the mints has taken over the rest of my herbs and is threatening the vegetable garden too:

    Yes, Deborah has it right
Roundup, the slack gardeners friend, deals to mint like magic

My mint varieties which includes Basil mint were seriously taking control till I tried Roundup this spring….still have enough mint but I have the upper hand

I do recomend trying basil mint and a mixture of the others

The best place I ever grew mint was in one of those old concrete double wash tubs. Big enough for it to wander a bit but no way of invading the rest fo the garden. Smaller pots don’t seem to “do”

Deborah & Rayinnz – I avoid sprays when I can but I think you’re right, roundup may be the only way to deal with it.

Then I can follow the advice from Artandmy life – there’s a concrete trough if what was the pet lamb paddock over the fence from the mint so I could transplant some and keep it confied there.
