Kiwiblog deservedly retains first place in the Tumeke! blogosphere rankings for August.
Tim Selwyn gets an electronic toast of gratitutde for the work he puts into calculating the rankings each month based on Alexa ranking, traffic, number of posts, links and comments.
Yesterday Kim Hill asked her guest Alastair Thompson, co-founder, co-editor and general manager of Scoop, what was the point of blogs.
One of my aunts suggested it’s the modern equivalent of pen friends and I guess having a willing writer is point enough. If what’s written attracts readers that’s better and if they leave comments that’s a bonus.
Homepaddock moved up four places to 12th spot. I’m a willing writer, but it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun without readers, comments and links, so thanks for your contribution.

Well done HP – a very deserved ranking. Keeping Stock remains in the Top 20 as well, and just this afternoon passed last months total visits with nine days still to go. The election will be good for “business” all round!

BB – I hope you are not using amateur in the same way it was employed to excuse NZ First’s inability to file returns 🙂 Like you I noticed that five in the top 10 were those with several contributers but I don’t think that makes them all professionals.

It is harder for the solo bloggers.
Which makes their achievements all the more remarkable.
What I will say is having more posts does help, but I sometimes wonder if you can have too many.

But quality is better than quantity – Poneke always ranks well although he doesn’t post every day.
Although Dig n Stir also goes for quality – consistently well written, using original material and sources, it doesn’t rate so well but that’s probalby because it’s a specialist rural blog.

Interesting question FFM. I don’t think you can set an arbitrary number, otherwise you end up with low-qual posts just to keep the numbers up. So much depends on what is going on around the traps at any given moment – there’s no denying that Peters has been good for business, and everyone seems to be picking up in the run-up to the election. What sets Homepaddock apart is a) the rural slant, and b) a bit of feminine logic!

On numbers of posts, not sure if number per se matters so much.
Interestingly the last month seems to have seen traffic increase for a number of us.
In my case the number of NZ readers as a % has increased also.

Antivirus company McAfee also assigns a danger to the Alexa toolbar. The tests conducted by the former on the Alexa toolbar showed downloads that are thought to be spyware, adware, or other unwanted programs.
