Environment Southland chair Ali Timms has survived a vote of confidence which was called after she made a prank call to Invercargill mayor Tim Shadbolt on a radio show.
The vote was 7-5, which included her own vote.
That means the council is split 6-5 on her suitability as chair which means the council is only just confident.

Yes, hardly a resounding victory for the masquerader. Perhaps the alternative for Chair was a frequent
trollcommenter on this site and that thought drove five to vote for Ms Timms – plus the trickster herself adding her own vote – as the best of a bad bunch. Unedifying for Environment Southland. How unkind. I declared to the Southland Times weeks ago that I was not going to contest the chairmanship. The councillors at Environment Southland are not “a bad bunch”. The result of today’s vote though, might be described as “unedifying”, in my opinion.
Finally we agree on something.
If we were in the same place, I shout you a beer.
