. . . When other sales of land to overseas owners are considered, and the safeguards written into the consent considered, the outcry over this bid has been disproportionate.
Its real importance to New Zealand is the extent to which it strengthens ties with a market fast becoming this country’s most important economic lifeline. – ODT

Similarly Fran O’Sullivan in today’s Herald in contrast to the shrill mewlings of others
Let’s get real here – the real reason why this was done was to maintain high land values to benefit those who own land and the finance houses.
It helps those with power and the friends of those in power – it is just another form of oligarchic corruption
actually
the real importance is that it gives China the ability to ( if the restrictions can in the future be overcome ?)
to BYPASS N.Z. and sell to itself -that is make milk product on THEIR farm and sell to itself
so that really puts a hole in the suggestion that it wil be GOOD for NZ !
Andrei, your comment is incomprehensible.
You appear to suggest that Westpac as the lender to the CRafar’s should take a larger tahn needed loss so that the farms are sold to Fay’s consortium. Incidentally if that were done it would increase borrowing costs for other NZ business interests.
Yet by most peoples definition Fay would be an oligarch of the type you rail against in your second point.
Consequently I find it very hard to take your comments seriously
Mali
please engage your brain, before commenting. Your comment is nonsensical and makes no economic sense, but I am sure that is not uncommon in your case
I’m with Andrei on this one.
Surely if normal commercial protocals had been followed, Crafar farms would have come up for sale as individual lots.
This could have helped avoid the various fishooks that will inevitably
arise and will no doubt be ignored by our ” implanted” Prime Minister and his indoctrinated followers.
The decision to market the farms as a unit was made by the receivers.
That doesn’t necessarily make it the right decision,Hp.
Fred – I agree. I can’t understand how selling the farms seperately which would provide an opportunity for far more potential buyers would get less than selling the whole operation when the market for that would be tiny.
Though JC did give an explanation: https://homepaddock.wordpress.com/2012/01/27/crafar-farm-bid-approved/#comment-71582
