    4. I planted vegies a few weeks ago here in Adelaide, on Labour Day. Some rainbow chard, because I like the colours, and tomatoes. Plus some parsley and some basil. Not much this year, because with a bit of luck we will be home in NZ by Christmas, and my girls and I will be busy planning our new gardens. Each of my girls has her own garden, with a rose in the middle, and some herbs, and space to plant vegies. Just a few at a time, to keep it manageable for them. I wrote about the beginnings of our gardens here: Putting down roots.

    5. My first jobs – paper round, babysitting, shop assistant. All while I was at school and university, and all at low low wages. My first ‘proper’ job was as an accountant, just after finishing my degree. It was 1988, I was aged 22, and I was paid $21,000 (I think).

The best job I have is the one for which I receive no money – rearing my lovely girls.
