“How do we city boys know these . . .”

Every now & then I have to make it tough – and I’ll confess I had to look up one of them.

“Is Sir Kerry Burke in there somewhere?”

Oh dear, either your tongue is so deeply in your cheek you’re in danger of choking or his reputation among rural people has passed you by.

Trouble maker / mischief maker, moi?? With a tongue that far into one’s cheek, there is a danger of being mistaken for the late Sir Robert!!

  4. PaulL says:

titipounamu: Pounamu is greenstone, and we all know what a titi is (although in English presumably spelled differently). So I would say it is a nipple ring with a greenstone ornament hanging off it.

    1. Variants in MC1R (the melanocortin receptor gene) are associated with differences in skin and hair color in humans (not just red heads). In evolutionary biology mutations in this gene in mammals and birds are often associated with local adaptation – a famous case being the rock pocket mouse.
    2. Had to google that one, wouldn’t it be nice if the preson currently doing that job was as ambitious…
    3. CK Stead and some other people
    4. The Rifleman (one of only two “New Zealand Wrens” to escape two rounds of human settlement, the Rock Wren survived but is endangered)
