The lead singer was Paul Jones. His version of Water Mellon Man is still a classic. The Manfreds played Ak Town Hall in ’67 with The Honeycombs ( who had a woman drummer… very rare in those days) and the The KInks, Ray and Dave Davies’ first visit to NZ. My Law School mate Jeannie Smith acted for MM (himself) in London in the late 70s and told me that every time MM had another hit he would come in and sign the documents for yet another Westminster property! See Rockers are brighter than boxers when it comes to keeping their coin! The Manfred Mann Earth Band, which had a great hit with ‘Blinded by The Light’ ( a classic) had a Kiwi keyboard player ( not many people know that)
    PBT.

I saw The Manfreds in Hastings a few years ago. They were brilliant then and it made me wish I had seen them at their peak as Paul obviously did.

I meant to add that My Name Is Jack is my favourite.

You have made me look up their website and I see thay are on tour in the UK – including Paul Jones. I will be going when they get to or near London.

Actually off to Cliff Richard and The Shadows at Wembley tomorrow night.
